Hi! My name is Cris Denopol, I'm a senior-level designer with over 7 years of professional  experience – both in-house and freelance. I work on diverse projects involving various aspects of design: web design, ui/ux design, graphic design and brand identity development; allowing me to demonstrate my versatility as a designer, leveraging on my strong technical and coding skills.

    I enjoy doing "creative experimentations", practicing a user-centered design approach basing design decisions on user needs and business goals. I'm always on the lookout for new technologies that can be used to improve my work flow and designs. I keep an eye on the small details while giving utmost importance on tight project time lines.

     

    Most recent work experience

    I have recently worked as an in-house designer for an American chemicals company, Huntsman Corporation – Textile Effects division. I worked under the Global Communications Department and my primary function was to design tools (digital and print) to strengthen brands and to support marketing and sales efforts.

     

    I worked closely with the Global Marketing team to design marketing materials which were used to promote Huntsman products globally; such as web sites, mobile applications, brochures, flyers, hang tags and promotional kits that contained fabric samples and color swatches. I also designed booth layouts, banners, posters and backdrops for global, industry related events. I gather real-world usage inputs from the marketing and sales people (target users) and use them as basis for enhancing design. I analyze target customers and design visual/brand identities for new products and existing ones based on the data I have acquired.

     

    A few of the most notable projects I had the privilege of working on were: the Huntsman Textile Effects website, Huntsman–Pantone collaboration website, Huntsman marketing application, HIGH® IQ branding and AVITERA® SE branding. I would be posting case studies for these projects on this website soon.

     

    What differentiates me from most designers

    What sets me apart from most designers is that I always put function before aesthetics. The goal of every design I create is for users to have a pleasant experience. My strong technical skills and extensive coding knowledge also provide me a deep understanding of how applications and websites work as well as a background on how they are built. These allow me to create designs that are not only user-centric but also easily translated to working prototypes or fully working applications/websites.     Brand Identity Developer (Designer)

    Sept 2012 – Nov 2015

     

    I worked under the Global Communications team and my primary function was to design tools (both digital and print) that deliver effective corporate communications, strengthen brands and to support marketing and sales efforts.

    Key Achievements

    Huntsman Textile effects website – Developed the new look and feel of the revamped website. Implementing (coding) the designs/layout in HTML, CSS and Javascript.

     

    Huntsman+Pantone website – Designed the layout and developed the prototype of the website which is used to promote over 2000+ Huntsman dyes that matches with Pantone color standards.

     

    Huntsman Textile Effects Marketing app – Designed the iPad/iPhone enterprise application and worked closely with the app developers to enhance user experience and aesthetics

     

    AVITERA® SE Branding – Developed the new branding for  AVITERA® SE, an award-winning range of sustainable dyes for textiles

     

    HIGH IQ® Repel Branding – Developed the branding for HIGH IQ® Repel, a range of textile chemicals for sportswear

    OpenRice.com

    Designer

    Aug 2011 – Sep 2012

     

    As the designer, I was responsible for creating high-quality visual designs of websites and microsites as well as front-end development – creating cross-browser compatible pages in HTML, CSS and Javascript. Worked with clients (restaurants) on building a visually appealing website with streamlined design on the in-house OpenRice platform/cms (OpenRice Shops). Engaged with Marketing managers to build microsites (static websites), design and deploy banner ads and electronic newsletters to help achieve their marketing and promotional goals.

     

    In addition to web design, I was also responsible for designing printed marketing and promotional materials such as posters, brochures and banners.

     

    Key Achievements

    OpenRice Shops demo kit (portfolio) – Designed the app and microsite to be used by marketing and sales people across OpenRice branches (Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, India).

     

    OpenRice Singapore iPhone app – Designed the user interface for the new version

     

    OpenRice Website – Participated in the redesign of key pages on the revamped website which involved HTML, CSS coding

     

    OpenRice Singapore bus ad – Designed the decal for bus ad

    Asian Food Channel (AFC)

    Web Designer/Web Developer

    Dec 2010 – Jul 2011

     

    Involved in the development of the AFC Content Management System from the ground up, which runs the official AFC website (www.asianfoodchannel.com). Participated in the design phase of the AFC website revamp. Worked with the creative director to refine web page design and layout. Also built microsites for AFC key clients like DBS.

     

    Key Achievements

    Successfully developed a stable Content Management System from the ground up for the official AFC website (without the use of existing frameworks) under tight deadlines.

     

    Developed a microsite (with a rudimentary CMS) for the AFC's ‘True Passion’ with Chef Martin Yan.

     

    Setup the American Express paygate for the AMEX-sponsored event ‘8 Treasures of China’ with Chef Martin Yan.

     

    Successfully migrated data from the old AFC website and re-coded the old microsites to be compatible with the new CMS.

    Successfully completed various projects of clients from the US, Europe and Asia. Projects include designing static websites, designing cms (wordpress and joomla) themes, designing collaterals such as brochures, business cards, web banners and Craigslist ads, developing photoshop actions for automated generation of mockups, logo and icon designs, 3D modeling and 2D illustrations.

     

    Key Achievements

    Designed the user interface and redesigned the logo of a software called ‘Simple Home Management’ (http://www.simplehomesoftware.com).

    Conceptualized the whole look and feel and designed the user interface of various casino game clients. Worked closely with the art director to make sure that all the client requirements are met, both aesthetically and technically. Liaised with the game development team and quality assurance team to troubleshoot bugs and to eliminate visual/graphical defects.
